There are two type of massage on offer.
Deep tissue massage, (sometime called sports massage) and this is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues of the body e.g. muscles, ligaments and tendons. It is tailored to each individual’s needs to positively enhance their ability to function, whether it’s dynamic sport or everyday activities.
Some of the benefits of Deep tissue massage include:
- Improve circulation & lymphatic flow (water retention)
- Greater removal of metabolic waste
- Increase the healing speed of soft tissue damage
- Optimise scar tissue remodelling
- Assist in mental preparation for sport
- Exfoliation and nourishment of the skin
- Relaxation and reduction of stress levels
- Reduction of adrenalin and blood pressure
- Reduce muscle stiffness, pain and fatigue
- Increase flexibility and range of movement
Regardless of whether you stay active, exercise, play sport to keep fit, or compete from club to international level, then sports massage has something to offer you.
Swedish Massage is your classic example, and probably what you perceive a massage to be. Using the three basic flowing strokes of Effleurage, Petrissage & Tapotement. Effleurage is the light flowing strokes that glide across the skin, Petrissage is slightly deeper and works on the muscles, and Tapotement is the ‘chopping’ that you see on TV, this style of massage is prefect for unwinding after that frantic week.
